North-East singer-songwriter Cape Club first took hold of my heart back in May last year when he waxed sentimental on the incredibly moving track Swim and has since, with each new release, refused to let it go. With a penchant for creating songs which are gorgeously tinged with themes of loneliness, heartbreak and isolation, singer Chad Male reminds us that we’re never really alone in these universal experiences of sadness.
New single Closer, exhibits that oh so painful realisation of an unrequited love; when you open your entire soul to someone who barely thinks about you in return. Heartfelt and emotively expressive in his delivery, with a gentle strumming guitar and those rippling atmospheric melodies, Male creates his own gut-wrenchingly honest depiction of heartbreak. ‘One way love will leave us black and blue inside.’ he sings and I am again turned to mush.
Cape Cub’s new EP, also called ‘Closer’ arrives on March 25th. Chad Male and companions will also be hitting the road in the UK in March, with a London headline debut at The Waiting Room on March 30th. Register and order free e-tickets for that show here.
