It has finally arrived. It’s here. I am so friggin’ happy.
Surely one of the most anticipated videos of the year and by far my favourite song off their tongue-twistingly titled number one album ‘I Like It When You Sleep, For You Look So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It.’, The 1975 have portrayed yet another aesthetically profound work of art from the weird and wonderfully creative minds of Matty Healy and director Tim Mattia.
Continuing where Change Of Heart left off, the visual treatment for Somebody Else begins in a black and white Lynchian setting. Here, we witness Matty wash off his sad sac clown makeup before leaving the presence of a despondent other half for the colourful chaos of the outside world. Thereon, we follow The 1975 front-man in his journey down a hedonistic rabbit hole of self obsession and self destruction, wandering aimlessly through the darkened streets of his own fragmented mind.
Along with outstanding references to other work throughout (namely Robbers and Change Of Heart. Brownie points if you can spot them all!), the cinematically shot ballad of broken love is a surrealistic masterpiece that perfectly captures all the ways in which we lose ourselves after we have already lost someone else. I suggest you mentally prepare yourself people, as the meaning of the phrase ‘Go F**k yourself’ is taken to a whole other level by the videos twisted end.
Details have also been released of extended dates for the band’s winter tour, including an extra show at London’s 02 Arena. Tickets go on general sale at 9.00am on July 15th.
