Clean Cut Kid - We Used To Be In Love

“It’s the first love lost. Always the one that never quite heals.”

There is nothing quite like the brief re-emergence of an old flame to remind us that although we can move on, we never really let go.  It’s been almost two months since this song was released and although I have played it multiple times, this week is the first time it has truly hit home. In their latest track ‘We Used To Be In Love’, Liverpool quartet- husband and wife Mike and Evelyn Halls, Saul Godman and Ross Higginson use punchy synths, skuzzy guitar lines and some infectiously vibrant hooks in a heavy yet surprisingly upbeat ode to an all too relatable and bittersweet tale of lost love.

“One of the most heart shattering things about breaking up with someone is how this person, who used to be at the centre of your whole universe, is suddenly no more a part of your life than a distant stranger” explains singer Mike Halls. “We Used To Be In Love” is about passing that person in the street and wanting to scream “DON’T YOU REMEMBER WHAT WE USED TO FEEL FOR EACH OTHER?!?!”

I’m sure we all can relate.

‘We Used To Be In Love’ is the title track for Clean Cut Kid’s long-awaited EP, which is also out now. Check out the band’s upcoming dates below and see them as soon as you can. I have a feeling it won’t be too long before this buzz-worthy band make it to the mainstream.
